Bangor,ME- The Husson University women’s basketball team defeated the University of Maine Farmington Beavers Friday night 71-53 Friday Night at Newman Gymnasium to remain unbeaten in the North Atlantic Conference.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter behind a quick nine points from three quick three-point shots from Emma Alley. Sydney Allen also scored a few quick shots to give the Eagles a 16-8 advantage midway through the opening quarter.
The Beavers would quickly respond with baskets from Alex Bessey and McKenna Brodeur to draw the score to 18-14 with just under two minutes to play in the opening quarter. The Eagles would extend the lead to 23-17 to end the first quarter.
The Beavers once again would stay within striking distance of the lead, closing within three points early in the second quarter. The Eagles continued to respond with baskets from Joan Overman and Allen, and would extend the lead 40-26 headed into halftime.
Bailey Donovan got on the scoreboard in the second half to help the Eagles pull away in the third and fourth quarters to close out the win.
The Eagles put four players in double digit points. Alley led the way with 16 points. Donovan and Overman each had a double double with Donovan recording 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Overman 10 points and 10 rebounds. Allen also finished with 10 points.
UMF was led by McKenna Brodeur with 17 points and seven rebounds, and Alex Bessey with 15 points.
The Eagles improve to 11-7 overall and 8-0 in the NAC to take sole possession of the conference lead. UMF falls to 10-9, 7-1.
Husson will travel to Thomas College tomorrow February 1st for another conference matchup at 3 pm. UMF returns home to host Maine Maritime Saturday at 3:30 pm.
