Freshman center Bailey Donovan scored a game high 16 points on Saturday afternoon, to help lead the Husson Eagles to a 63-47 North Atlantic Conference women’s basketball win at Thomas College in Waterville.
Both teams held a first quarter lead both by a five point margin. The Eagles ended the opening 10 minutes on a 12-2 run to take a 22-17 lead after trailing 15-10. Thomas never led again as Husson would take an eight point lead just before the break and led 34-28 at halftime. The Terriers cut it to 34-33 in the third quarter on a Addie Brinkman jumper, but the Eagles scored 11 of the final 15 points of the period including a Vanessa Duarte layup to make it 45-37 headed to the fourth. Thomas (9-12, 7-3 NAC) continued to hang around early in the fourth quarter down seven, before Husson would put it away closing the game on a 12-3 run that included a Donovan three point play with 2:35 to go to stay unbeaten in the NAC.
Donovan added seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks in the Husson win. Emma Alley added 11 points. Sydney Allen also got into double figures finishing with 10 points, four rebounds, and five steals. The Eagles are now 12-7 overall, 9-0 in the NAC. Brinkman had 15 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks in the Thomas loss. Karli Stubbs also added nine points. Husson is at Northern Vermont-Lyndon and Northern Vermont- Johnson next Friday and Saturday.
