Justin Thompson had a double double with 17 points and 11 rebounds on Saturday evening, helping the Husson Eagles break a four game conference losing streak with a 70-61 North Atlantic men’s basketball win over Thomas College in Waterville.
Thomas got off to a fast start going up by 10 at 17-7 on a three-pointer by Demetris Webster just over seven minutes in. Husson came storming back eventually taking the lead on a three-pointer by Derek Collin 25-24 with 5:42 left before the break. The Eagles led by as many as six, and held that same margin at halftime on a late Justice Kendall jumper. Husson went up 11 early in the second half on another Kendall shot, but the Terriers of Thomas had one more run. The hosts went on a 15-6 spurt over the next 6:06 cutting it to 49-47 with 13:07 to play on a jumpshot by Jordan Goodson. Thomas (12-9, 6-4 NAC) got within two on several occasions but never got closer. Husson finished it off at the foul line hitting 6-6 in the final 1:41 to ice the win.
Scott Lewis came off the bench to add 16 points and grab five rebounds in the Husson win. Kendall had 14 points, as the Eagles improve to 7-12, 5-4 in the NAC. Goodson led Thomas College with 15 points, three rebounds, five assists, and three steals in the loss. Webster finished with 10 points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Tyler Nixon also added 10 points and six rebounds. Husson will host Bowdoin in non-conference Tuesday night, and then head to Northern Vermont-Lyndon and Northern Vermont-Johnson next Friday and Saturday.
