Anthony Lamb scored a game high 19 points on Wednesday night in leading the Vermont Catamounts to a 77-52 America East men’s basketball win over the Maine Black Bears at Patrick Gym in Burlington, Vermont.
The hosts never trailed in this one taking as much as a 14 point first half lead after not leading by more than seven in the first 10 minutes. Vermont took a 33-22 lead into halftime. After Maine (6-17, 2-7 America East) cut it to nine early in the second half on a dunk by Stephane Ingo, the Catamounts would then start to pull away. Vermont went on a 19-2 run over the next 5:44 capped off by a pair of Lamb free throws with 12:57 to play to make it 52-26. The Black Bears could go only get as close as 23 the rest of the way, as the lead went to 38 several times in the last 5:43 as Vermont had a much easier second matchup with Maine after a tight 59-57 win in Bangor back on January 22.
Sergio El Darwich led Maine in the loss with 12 points and five rebounds. Vilgot Larssen and Nedeljko Prijovic both added 11 points, with Larssen adding four rebounds and Prijovic adding five. Ingo also contributed eight points and nine rebounds. Lamb added five rebounds to his point total including shooting 10-10 from the free throw line in the Vermont win. Stef Smith added 14 points, while Ryan Davis had 13 and Everett Duncan had 12. Davis added eight rebounds, while Duncan had five. The Catamounts improve to 18-6, 8-1 and have won eight straight games. The Black Bears play at Binghamton Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
