SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine- Madeline Suhr had a game high 22 points Sunday afternoon to lead the University of Maine-Augusta to a 73-49 non-conference women’s basketball win over Albany College of Pharmacy in a game played at Southern Maine Community College.
UMA (11-8) led 12-4 in the first when Kaeti Butterfield knocked down a pair of free throws. But ACPHS (9-11) scored the final eight points of the period capped off by a three-pointer from Emma Webster and the game was tied 12-12. The Panthers continued that run to 10-0 when Clare Snell made a layup for the only Panthers lead 14-12. UMA then went on an 8-0 run and went up 20-14 on a layup from Cassidy Lessner. After Snell hit another layup, the Moose ran off nine straight points for a 29-16 advantage. Butterfield knocked down two more from the line in the waining seconds of the quarter to extend to a 36-20 halftime advantage. The lead went to as many as 31 in the third on a Sydney Leblanc jumper, as UMA pulled away starting the quarter on a 16-1 run. 18 points is the closest ACPHS would get the rest of the way as the Moose notched their 11th win of the season.
Suhr added 11 rebounds to her point total for the double double in the win for UMaine-Augusta. Butterfield added 18 points and seven rebounds. Leblanc contributed 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Hope Butler had eight points, Mallory Chamberlain five, Lessner four points, five rebounds, five assists, and both Kate Stevens and Autumn Sudsbury added two points each. Webster had 18 points and Snell had 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the loss for Albany College of Pharmacy. UMA will host Senior Night at the Augusta Civic Center on Thursday night at 7:30 when they battle New Hampshire Technical Institute.
