BANGOR– The Presque Isle Wildcats had three players finish in double figures as they advanced to the semifinals with a 53-46 quarterfinal win over Winslow on Friday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center.
The Wildcats jumped off to an 8-0 lead behind two three pointers from Sjoberg. Presque Isle held a 16-11 after the first eight minutes of play. The Black Raiders cut the deficit to 22-20 midway through the second quarter. The Wildcats ended the half on a 10-0 run to take a 32-20 advantage into intermission.
Presque Isle started the second half outscoring Winslow 12-2 to take their biggest lead of 22 (44-22). The Black Raiders followed that up with an 18-1 run that extended into the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to 45-39. Maggie Castonguay made a three pointer with 4:40 left that stopped the run and gave Presque Isle a 48-39 lead. Jenna Veilleux got Winslow with 50-46 with 1:07 left, but Annalisa Jandreau went 2-2 from the line to help the Wildcats secure the win.
Silver Clukey and Bodhi Littlefield led the Black Raiders with 14 points each. Clukey also had five steals and three assists. Grace Smith added nine points and eight rebounds. Winslow ends the season with a 14-6 record.
Sjoberg led the Wildcats with 17 points and five rebounds. Jandreau added 12 points. Castonguay filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists. Presque Isle (16-3) will play a semifinal game on Wednesday afternoon at 2:05 PM against Waterville.
Presque Isle out rebounded Winslow 38-30. The Wildcats shot 11-21 from the free throw line, while the Black Raiders shot 4-9.
