BANGOR- The Washington Academy Raiders jumped out to a quick lead and never trailed in a 56-45 win over MCI in a Class B boys quarterfinal game played Friday night at the Cross Insurance Center.
The Raiders built the lead as high as seven in the first quarter and held a 14-9 lead after the first eight minutes of play. Washington Academy ended the first half on an 13-2 run and took a 36-20 intermission advantage.
MCI started the second half strong, scoring the first nine points and cutting the deficit to 36-29. The Raiders built the lead to 43-34 after the third quarter.
The Huskies cut the deficit to 45-40 midway through the fourth quarter. Washington Academy shot 6-9 from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the victory.
Cecil Gray led the Raiders with 19 points, nine rebounds, and two steals. Andon Wood filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Jax Lin had 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Washington Academy (14-5) will play Ellsworth in a semifinal game on Wednesday night at 7 PM.
Owen Williams led the Huskies with 15 points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Gavin McArthur added 12 points, while Dominic Wilson recorded nine points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Harrison Sites had six points and seven rebounds. MCI finishes the season with a record of 13-7.
Washington Academy out rebounded MCI 35-28. The Raiders shot 10-14 from the free throw line, while the Huskies shot 8-21.
