BANGOR– Danielle Libby and Maizy Cullen scored 12 points each to lead the Katahdin Cougars to a 38-12 win over Washburn in a Class D girls basketball quarterfinal game played Saturday evening at the Cross Insurance Center.
After Washburn scored the first point, Katahdin scored the next 18 points during a stretch that extended into the third quarter. After a first quarter that ended 1-1, the Cougars led 13-1 at halftime. Libby had seven first half points.
The Cougars held a 26-3 lead after the first three quarters. They didn’t allow their first field goal until Emma Johnston put in bucket for the Beavers with 5:50 left in the fourth quarter.
Johnston led the Beavers with five points and five steals. Washburn ends the season with a record of 9-10.
Libby had five rebounds and four steals to go along with her 12 points. Makayla Hartsgrove had seven points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Katahdin (14-5) will play in a semifinal game on Thursday afternoon.
