BANGOR- The last slotted game on Saturday night did not disappoint. Rylee Eaton and Brittany Gray helped propel the second ranked Mariners of Deer Isle-Stonington to a 43-40 quarterfinal victory over the seventh ranked Schenck Wolverines in class D action.
Gray helped out in the scoring department adding 10 points along with three assists on the evening. Eaton dominated the night. The junior stacked up 15 points along with nine rebounds, while remaining a force on the defensive side of things.
Eaton scored her team’s first seven points of the fourth quarter as her team entered that quarter trailing an impressive Wolverine squad 27-26. The fourth quarter was largely dominated by impressive defense and a few key threes from the Mariners.
Junior captain Kaylee Morey also impressed with a game leading six assists. The Wolverines were led by Junior Laura Cote who had a game high 17 points including five three pointers, and Senior Cassie Russell who had seven points and four steals.
Schenck ends their season at 8-11. The Mariners will advance to the semi final round to take on the Katahdin Cougars who were victorious over Washburn 38-12 in their matchup.
