BANGOR–Kashman Feeney finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead a balanced attack in a 57-46 Machias win over Southern Aroostook in a Class D boys basketball quarterfinal game played Monday night at the Cross Insurance Center.
Machias held the lead until Hunter Burpee gave Southern Aroostook a lead late in the first quarter. The Warriors held that 9-8 advantage heading into the second quarter. Southern Aroostook built the lead to 13-8 when they scored the first four points of the second quarter. Machias followed that up with an 11-2 run. The Bulldogs held a 19-18 lead at intermission.
The Bulldogs scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 27-18 lead. Machias held a 36-30 advantage after the third quarter.
Feeney and Ethan Foss each had six points in the final quarter to help the Bulldogs pull away. Machias went 9-12 from the free throw line in the final eight minutes.
Hunter Burpee led the Warriors with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals. Xavier Morales came off the bench to score 11 points. Chris Caswell and Graham Stiltz added seven points each. Southern Aroostook finishes the season with a record of 13-6.
Ethan Foss recorded 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists to lead the Bulldogs. Kyle Anderson added 10 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks. Shane Feeney chipped in with nine points and five rebounds. Machias (10-8) will play a semifinal game on Thursday night at 8:30 PM.
