Ryan Alley helps Jonesport-Beals boys cruise in quarterfinal win

BANGOR, Maine- Ryan Alley had a game high 21 points Monday night to help the top seeded Jonesport-Beals Royals to a 58-39 win over #9 Greater Houlton Christian in a Maine Principals’ Association Class D North boys quarterfinal game at the Cross Insurance Center.

The Royals scored the first five points of the game and led 7-1 early. The Eagles charged back with baskets from Austin Winslow and Parker Brewer to cut the deficit to 7-5. Jonesport-Beals (17-0) then ran off the last six points of the first quarter to make it 13-5. Adam Robinson had seven points in the first eight minutes. The Royals continued the run and scored the first six of the second period to cap off a 12-0 run to make it 19-5. Greater Houlton Christian did get within 19-11 on a Jeremy Stone basket, and then two from the line and a hoop from Brewer. The Royals though finished the first half on a 12-3 spurt to take a 31-14 halftime lead on an Alley three-pointer at the buzzer.

The offense slowed down in the third as the teams combined for six points over the first five minutes. The Royals would increase their lead by scoring six of the final 10 points and took a 43-20 advantage to the fourth quarter. Jonesport-Beals scored the first five points of the final quarter for their biggest lead of 28. The 19 point final margin is the closest Greater Houlton Christian got the rest of the way.

Alley grabbed five rebounds in addition to his game high point total to help Jonesport-Beals to the win. Robinson had 12 points and four rebounds. Alvin Beal Jr. added 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Kaiden Crowley chipped in eight points and five rebounds. Brady Reynolds contributed four points and six rebounds, while Marc Crowley also had two points and Nathaniel Robinson added a free throw for one point. The Royals outrebounded the Eagles 35-24, and shot 3-10 from the foul line.

Brewer led Greater Houlton Christian with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Jeremy Stone, Winslow, and Silas Graham added five points each. Stone also grabbed five rebounds. Will Austin, Drew Duttweiler, and Joel Carmichael each chipped in with four points a piece. The Eagles shot 4-6 from the line. GHCA finishes their season with a record of 9-11.

Jonesport-Beals advances to a 8:35 p.m. semifinal on Thursday night against Machias.
