BANGOR, Maine- Parker Deprey and Michael Brigman both had 17 points on Wednesday night as the defending regional and state champions from Caribou ran past Old Town 73-32 in a Maine Principals’ Association Class B boys semifinal at the Cross Insurance Center.
Caribou led from nearly start to finish in an impressive offensive and defensive effort. Ethan Holdsworth started with a basket, Deprey made 1-2 from the line, and then Sawyer Deprey scored a hoop to quickly make it 5-0. Michael Brown and Matthew Seymour gave Old Town their only lead with back to back three-pointers. P. Deprey gave the Vikings the lead back for good at 7-6, and a 12-4 run had Caribou up 17-10 at the end of the first eight minutes. The run continued to 17-4 with five more quick points in the second quarter as the advantage went to 22-10. The Coyotes sliced it to six when Shawn Hoogterp hit a three-pointer and Bryce Richards completed a three point play, but that is as close as Old Town would be the rest of the night. Caribou then got the start of a stellar period from Brigman. He hit back to back three-pointers to bring the lead back to 12, and he would hit three more from long distance (15 pts. in the quarter) in the eight minutes including one just before the halftime buzzer to cap off a 27 point quarter by the Vikings to make it 44-21 at the break.
The lead continued to grow in the third as Caribou outscored Old Town 13-2, led by six more from P. Deprey for a 57-23 lead headed to the fourth quarter. The Vikings got some of their bench involved in the final period as did the Coyotes as the lead went to as many as 43 down the stretch.
P. Deprey added 12 rebounds to his point total in the Caribou win. S. Deprey finished with 12 points and six rebounds. Alex Bouchard chipped in nine points, four assists, and three steals. Also contributing was Holdsworth with four points, Isaac Marker, Brevin Barnes, Zackary Madore, and Riley Bouchard all had three points a piece, while Cory Herbert hit a basket for two points. The Vikings outrebounded the Coyotes 39-19 and shot 11-15 from the foul line.
Hoogterp lead #12 Old Town in the loss with eight points and six rebounds. Ethan Hayes, Brown, and Seymour added five points a piece. Also chipping in was Richards with four points, Chris Albert and Jacob Corson with two points each, and Isaac Hayes added a free throw for one point. The Coyotes shot 4-7 from the foul line and end their season with a record of 11-10.
#1 Caribou (19-1) will face #2 Ellsworth (17-3) in the Class B North regional championship on Saturday afternoon at 3:45 p.m.
