BANGOR–Steven Pierce scored 17 second half points to lead the Fort Kent Warriors to a 63-48 win over Mattanawcook in a Class C boys basketball quarterfinal game played Wednesday morning at the Cross Insurance Center.
Fort Kent got things started quickly by scoring the first 10 points. The Lynx responded with a 7-0 run. Eden Paradis made a three pointer to give the Warriors a 13-7 lead after the first quarter.
The Lynx went on an 11-0 run to start the second quarter as they took an 18-13 lead. Fort Kent followed that up with a 7-0 run capped by a three pointer from Jace Rocheleau. The teams had three lead changes the rest of the half as the Lynx took a 27-25 lead into intermission.
The second half was the Pierce show. He poured in 10 points during the third quarter as the Warriors exploded for 20 points and took a 45-37 lead.
Pierce continued the dominance in the fourth quarter, putting in seven points, including going 4-4 from the free throw line in the final eight minutes. The Warriors went 8-11 from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the win.
Brandon Oliver led the Lynx with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals. Cody Hanscom put in eight points, while Jackson Weatherbee and Malcolm Slomienski chipped in with seven points each. Weatherbee also had rebounds and three assists. Mattanawcook finishes the season with a 10-10 record.
Pierce led the Warriors with 22 points and five rebounds. Paradis recorded 14 points, three rebounds, three steals. Rocheleau added 10 pounds, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Fort Kent (17-3) will play a semifinal game Friday night at 8:30.
