BANGOR, Maine- Three starters scored in double figures Wednesday afternoon, led by 13 points each from Paige Plissey and Megan Tracy to lead the #1 Hermon Hawks to a 47-34 Maine Principals’ Association Class B semifinal girls basketball win at the Cross Insurance Center.
Hermon got baskets from Plissey, Madison Lebel, Grace Paige, and Tracy to open up an 8-0 lead to start things. Old Town got their first basket over four minutes in when Lexi Thibodeau scored. A three-pointer and a two point basket by Saturdays quaterfinal hero Charlotte Caron pushed the lead to 13-2. Hermon led 15-7 after the opening eight minutes. Maddy Emerson hit two from the line, Thibodeau hit one, and Maddy Arsenault hit a jumper for the Coyotes to cut it to 15-12 at the beginning of the second quarter. The Hawks though ran off the last nine points of the half and took their largest lead 24-12 at the break.
Hermon continued that run when Tracy hit a three-pointer, Plissey hit one at the line and also hit a three-pointer to cap off a 16-0 run to stretch the lead to 31-12 at the start of the third quarter. Old Town wouldn’t go quietly though as Hannah Richards and Thibodeau scored four points each part of a 13-3 run to cut the deficit to 34-25 after three. Arsenault hit a pair of free throws to start the fourth for the Coyotes to cut it to seven, but that is as close as they would get. Lebel hit a pair of shots wedged around another three-pointer from Caron to make it 41-27, and 10 is the closest Old Town would get after that.
Tracy added seven rebounds and Plissey had three assists to go along with their game high point total in the Hermon win. Lebel finished with 10 points. Also chipping in was Caron with eight points, Paige with two, and Sydney Gallop added a free throw for one point. The Hawks outrebounded the Coyotes 27-16 and shot 10-15 from the foul line including 6-8 down the stretch in the fourth quarter.
Thibodeau had nine points to lead Old Town in the loss. Richards finished with seven. Also contributing was Maddy Emerson and Sydney Loring with five points each, Arsenault with four, and Gabrielle Cody and Claudia Damboise with two points a piece. The Coyotes shot 9-13 from the line and finish their season with a 14-6 record.
Hermon (19-1) will face Waterville (19-1) for the Class B North regional championship on Saturday afternoon at 2:05 p.m.
