The Maine Black Bears left some valuable conference points up on the board on Saturday evening, skating to a 0-0 overtime tie with the last place team in the league the Vermont Catamounts in men’s Hockey East action at Alfond Arena before 4,917 fans.
Both Jeremy Swayman and Stefanos Lekkas stood their ground in net in this one. Swayman made 30 saves, while Lekkas made 33. Vermont had two five minute powerplays in the game, once at the 9:38 mark of the first period and then again 4:00 into the third but couldn’t convert on either one. The Black Bears blocked seven shots to help keep the puck out and away from their net.
Cam Spicer, Jakub Sirota, AJ Drobot, and Ben Poisson all had four shots on goal for Maine who sees their record go to 17-10-5, 11-8-3 in Hockey East. The Bears went 0-2 on the powerplay, while the Catamounts were 0-3. Swayman gets his second shutout in the last three games. Vermont is now 3-22-6, 0-17-4 in the conference. Maine is at Providence for a single game next Saturday at 4:30, and then host the Friars in the season finale the following weekend on Friday, March 6. The Bears are currently in third place in Hockey East with 25 points.
