Allen Leads Husson Over UMF To Take 5th Straight Conference Title 70-60

Bangor,ME- The Husson University women’s basketball team another big game from sophomore Sydney Allen and put three others in double figures, to defeat the University of Maine Farmington 70-60 for their 5th straight North Atlantic Conference championship Saturday afternoon at Newman Gymnasium.

Husson opened up as much as a six point first quarter lead. UMF guard Alex Bessey hit a three-pointer late to cut it to 19-17 Eagles after the opening 10 minutes.

The Beavers kept up the run to start the second quarter as Victoria Garand sank two free throws ten seconds in to tie the game. The Eagles responded with a 6-0 run that lasted nearly three minutes of game time. UMF would go on a run of their own to close the gap to within two points with just over a minute to play. Husson would then score six straight points to give them a 33-25 halftime lead.

Husson would build on their lead in the second half by as much 13 points midway through the third quarter. The Beavers would not go away, as they would close the gap again near the end of the period getting within five points but would not get any closer. In the fourth quarter Husson would continue to hold onto a lead that was too much to overcome for the Beavers.

Allen led the way with 17 points and five rebounds. Joan Overman added 13 points, Emma Alley had 12 points, and Bailey Donovan had another double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Sydney Allen was named NAC tournament MVP with a total of 46 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in two games.

Husson finishes 16-0 in the NAC and improves to 19-8 overall. The Eagles advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament and will await seeding and opponent which will be announced Monday  at 2:30 in the selection show.

UMF finishes 10-6 in the NAC and 14-14 overall as the NAC runners up.
