Tuuka Rask recorded his fifth shutout of the season on Tuesday night, as the Boston Bruins ended the Philadelphia Flyers nine game winning streak with a 2-0 win at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The goalies dominated the game for almost a full two periods, before Boston broke through to net what was the game winner. On the powerplay at 18:39 of the second, David Krejci fired a pass from the top of the right faceoff dot over to David Pastrnak at the top of the left faceoff dot. Pastrnak then one timed a feed to Matt Grzelcyk who fired a one timer in from the point to make it 1-0. The Bruins got some breathing room in the third period when Brad Marchand fed Patrice Bergeron at center ice. Bergeron skated across the blue line and while skating between the circles in the high slot let go a hard wrist shot that beat Philadelphia goalie Carter Hart high to the stick side at 14:40. The Flyers pulled Hart with 2:45 to go but couldn’t solve Rask as he picked up his 50th career shutout.
Rask stopped all 36 shots in the win for Boston, who improves to 44-14-12 and becomes to the first team to reach 100 points on the season. Krejci, Pastrnak, Marchand, and Zdeno Chara all had assists. Hart stopped 27 shots in the loss for Philadelphia, who falls to 41-21-7. The Bruins went 1-3 on the powerplay, while the Flyers were 0-3. Boston will travel to Buffalo to battle the Sabres on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Bruins have now reached 100 points the first three seasons under head coach Bruce Cassidy. They haven’t had a streak like that since they did it five straight times from 1975-1980.
