Ionescu goes #1 in WNBA draft; full draft results

Oregon star Sabrina Ionescu was taken as the top overall pick as the WNBA held their annual draft on Friday night. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, commissioner Cathy Engelbert announced the selections via video conference while some of the top picks were available virtually to get their reactions. The season was scheduled to begin May 15 but has been postponed for now.

As expected, the New York Liberty took the now former Oregon Ducks guard with the first selection. The Dallas Wings took Satou Sabally, the teammate of Ionescu also out of Oregon, with the second pick. Lauren Cox out of Baylor went third to the Indiana Fever. Ionescu, who is the only NCAA Division I player to ever score 2,000 points, dish out 1,000 assists, and grab 1,000 rebounds in a career averaged 17.5 points per game, 8.6 rebounds, and 9.1 assists for the Ducks in 2019-20.
