Keselowski rallies to capture checkered flag at Coca-Cola 600

May 25, 2020

Brad Keselowski started at the back of the field but then rallied in the final laps and took home the win in one of the biggest races of the year at the Coca-Cola 600 in Concord, North Carolina and the Charlotte Motor Speedway early Monday morning.

Keselowski decided to stay on the track under caution with three laps remaining, and was able to overtake Chase Elliott who was the race leader but decided to make a pit stop. Elliott ended up second, which was the spot Jimmy Johnson was to finish in but he was disqualified after his car failed a post race inspection as he ended up in 40th and earned only one Cup point. Because of a weather delay in the first stage of action and that the race needed overtime to finish under green flag conditions under the caution, the 51st edition of the annual event became the longest in NASCAR history at 607.5 miles or 405 laps and the reason the event lasted until after midnight Sunday night and into Monday morning.

Finishing in the top 10 also from 3-10 were Ryan Blaney, Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr., Kurt Busch, Tyler Reddick, Christopher Bell, and Chris Buescher. Harvick, Joey Logano, Alex Bowman, Elliott, and Keselowski are currently the top five in the Sprint Cup standings. The drivers will again take on the oval at Charlotte in the next event on Wednesday night for the Alsco Uniforms 500.
