The committee that is responsible for scheduling and coordinating the Brewer High School Athletic Hall of Fame ceremonies, made an announcement Monday that amid coronavirus pandemic concerns and coordination they would be delaying the 2020 induction until the fall of 2021.
The original date was September 26 at Brewer High School, but now will be held next fall at a date not yet determined. Most of the members of the 1968 state championship football team that was to be inducted live out of state, and with flights being minimal at the moment the committee decided it would be best to wait a year.
The full class is made up of 30 year head coach of swimming and diving Kathleen Cahill, baseball player Ronnie Hews (Class of ’89), standout wrestler Victor Irwin (’13), softball player Leah Jackson (’09), three sport athlete Steve Tardiff (’69), and football and track star Bob Van Peursem (’71). The ’68 football team went 11-0 and won their first Class A state title scoring 355 points and only allowing 68. They were ranked #1 in the state of Maine and #5 in all of New England high school football.
