The Boston Red Sox finished up summer training on Tuesday and Wednesday nights when they hosted the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park in a pair of exhibition games.
On Tuesday night, Ryan Brasier couldn’t hold a one run Boston lead and allowed three ninth inning runs as Toronto won the game 8-6. Derek Fisher had the tie breaking two run homer, and had two homers on the night. Mitch Moreland had a three run homer for the Red Sox, JD Martinez hit a two run shot, and Rafael Devers had two hits. Ryan Weber started on the mound and allowed four earned runs on six hits over 6.0 innings.
On Wednesday, the game was called after 4 1/2 innings because of rain with Toronto leading 2-0 on the strength of a long homer off the bat of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. over everything in left off Brian Johnson. Recently acquired right hander pitcher Zack Godley pitched three scoreless innings in his first appearance with Boston. He allowed no hits with one walk and a pair of strikeouts, throwing 24 of his 35 pitches for strikes.
The Toronto Blue Jays who still don’t have a park to play in for their home opener next Wednesday since they were told they couldn’t play in Canada, and a deal they thought they had to play at PNC Park in Pittsburgh fell through, will begin their regular season in Tampa against the Rays Friday evening.
