The Hockey East Association announced Wednesday their tentative plans for return to play for the 2020-21 college hockey season both on the men’s and women’s side.
The league has said they plan to focus on at least getting Hockey East games played at a start date to be determined. The determination on a date and fan attendance will also be announced at a later date. It could also be a tricky year for the Maine Black Bears men’s team as far as the future of the program. Head Coach Red Gendron is in his final season of a contract extension that expires June 30, 2021, and the Bears are coming off one of their best seasons in recent history at 18-11-5 (12-9-3 HE) which was good enough for a home ice Hockey East quarterfinal series at the Alfond Arena before the coronavirus pandemic canceled the rest of the season.
