The Maine Principals’ Association on Tuesday delayed its decision on whether high school sports will be played this fall as they await further guidance from state officials.

Mike Burnham at MPA says he sent letter to CDC, Governor, DOE about two issues. 1) mental health of kids 2) school based activities and governor’s community sports programs have different criteria for play. They were granted a meeting last night.

Burnham says they could very well have a fall season if the DOE guidelines and community sports guidelines could come closer together. But at this point they await word from stakeholders.

Mike Burnham ‘there’s no promises…there is a distinct chance there will be no fall season.’ As for crowds at games. Burnham says they have not had a discussion about fans, but if there is a return to sports that will be part of it.

In summary MPA’ Burnham says will continue to work to offer as many sports as possible for fall. Will work with agencies to clear up community guidelines vs. DOE guidelines. Work to have trained, school based coaches working with kids.
