This afternoon that response came. In the letter from the state– The Maine Department of Health and Human Services and the Maine Department of Education doesn’t recommend cancellation of fall sports, they do recommend a delay to address the issues in the letter. They would like the MPA to address the policies on face coverings and spacing between spectators. The state also recommends no games for football or volleyball.
Among the concerns with the MPA guidelines the state notes are: no modification as to the type of play based on risk level, face coverings, and spacing between spectators. #VarsityMaine #mesports

The state is recommending a further delay to the September 8th start date.
The Maine DHHS and DOE is recommending a further delay to the start of the fall HS sports season so that the MPA can “resolve the concerns” the state has.
