September 3, 2020

While the Boston Celtics look to take a big 3-0 series stranglehold on the Toronto Raptors on Thursday night in their NBA Eastern Conference semifinal series, the Boston Red Sox fell to a season worse 13 games under .500 when they were swept away by the Atlanta Braves Wednesday night in the finale of a three game series.

For the Celtics, they’ve continued their domination of the Raptors in this 2019-20 seaaon having won five of six meetings including 3-0 at the Walt Disney World Resort “bubble”.

Boston has continued to get stellar play from Jayson Tatum, who lead all scorers with 34 points in the game two win. Marcus Smart has also played really well in the absence of Gordon Hayward, lighting up Toronto for five fourth quarter three-pointers in the Celtics most recent three point win on Tuesday night. The stars for the Raptors who guided them to a first round sweep over Brooklyn, have for the most part been held in check. Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, and Kyle Lowry have combined for 98 points on 32-98 shooting (33%) in the two losses. Game three tips off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox (12-25) were swept in a three game Interleague series with the Braves. Atlanta secured 6-3, 10-3, and 7-5 wins at Fenway Park on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights.

In the losses on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, Boston allowed two different hitters to have three homerun games. Marcell Ozuna went deep three times Tuesday night, while Adam Duvall did the same Wednesday becoming the first team since 2002 to have two different guys in back to back games play long ball three times. The last place Sox begin a five game series with Toronto on Thursday night at Fenway at 7:30, with a doubleheader scheduled for Friday beginning at 4:10 p.m.
