EAST CORINTH- In a long anticipated opener to the high school sports season, the Foxcroft Ponies edged Central 1-0 in girls soccer action.
The teams battled to a scoreless first half despite the Ponies attempting six shots. The only goal came when Ainsley Ade powered a penalty kick past Red Devils keeper Lexi Gibson.
Foxcroft outshot Central 11-6. Gibson made six saves in goal for the Red Devils, while Olivia Hill made 3 saves for the Ponies.
Central (0-1) will host Dexter in their senior game on Monday. That game can be seen at Eastern Maine Sports Media starting at 3:45 PM. Foxcroft (1-0) will next play on Wednesday when they travel to Orono.
