Grants goal lifts Dexter girls over Central

EAST CORINTH- Peyton Grant scored a goal with 17 minutes left in the second half Monday afternoon, lifting the Dexter Tigers to a 3-2 schoolgirl soccer win over the Central Red Devils at Central High School.

Dexter (1-0), playing their season opener, took control early. Olivia Peakes scored 4:01 into the first half on a Grant assist, and then scored again 3:01 later making it 2-0 Tigers on a helper from Cheyenne Beem. Central (0-2) rallied back however late in the first 40 minutes. Rylee Speed got a nice feed from Tayla Caruso and scored to cut it to 2-1 with 2:48 to go, and then the Devils made it 2-2 when McKenzie Rushlow found the equalizer with 27.3 seconds remaining. Grace Campbell assisted. The game winner from Grant in the second half came off a feed from Cally Gudroe.

In net Central goalie Lexi Gibson made eight saves, while Jasmine Lewis made five for Dexter. The Tigers outshot the Red Devils 16-11. Before the game Central honored their six seniors on senior day: Brooke Lunt, Brooke Simpson, Erica Noonan, Kaelyn Parks, Hannah Crocker, and Caruso.
