Legendary announcer Doc Emrick retires after 47 years

One of the most legendary voices in the history of the National Hockey League is retiring. 74 year old Mike “Doc” Emrick is calling it quits after 47 years behind the mic, calling over 3,750 NHL games, 22 Stanley Cup Finals, and six Olympic Winter Games.

Emrick plans to stay on with the NBC Sports Network to write and narrate video essays as part of the networks NHL coverage. In his career as a broadcaster that began in 1973, he has won seven Sports Emmy Awards as a top play by play sports personality (2010, 2013, 2014-2018). Locally in Maine, he was the voice of the Maine Mariners in the American Hockey League from 1977-1980. Below you can read a release from ESPN on his retirement-
