November 18, 2020

Under the uncertainty of the COVID-19 global pandemic and growing state numbers, the Maine Mariners hockey team has decided to cancel their upcoming 2020-21 season.

All six teams that play in the North Division of the ECHL have suspended play for this season, with all teams expected to return for a 2021-22 campaign. The other five teams include Worcester, Reading, Brampton, Newfoundland, and Adirondack.

Mariners Vice President of Hockey Operations Danny Briere released a statement saying, “With the uncertainties surrounding COVID-19, the increasing rates in our region, and after consulting with local officials, we did not see a clear path towards hosting fans at Mariners games. We want to thank our fans for their loyalty and passion as we continue to navigate returning to the ice. The future of this franchise is bright, and we are already making exciting plans for the 2021-22 season”.
