Some unfortunate news for men’s and women’s college basketball here in Maine on Tuesday. The University of Maine men’s basketball team has pulled out of their two scheduled games at the Air Force Reserve Hall of Fame Challenge in “Bubbleville” at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut against #4 Virginia on Wednesday afternoon, and Friday night against Central Connecticut State due to a positive COVID-19 test on the team. The women’s basketball tournament also at Mohegan Sun has been completely canceled, after UConn pulled out yesterday because of more positive tests on their campus. Maine was scheduled to face #6 Mississippi State Saturday morning, and then either UConn or Quinnipiac on Sunday. The men’s team was also scheduled to play Sunday at Quinnipiac in Emden, CT which is also out at this point, and then were scheduled to open up their home schedule on December 5 against Northeastern but that is postponed because NU isn’t playing any sports until at least December 18. The next two scheduled games for the women are on December 10 and 11th when they travel to Providence and Rhode Island respectively.
Meanwhile in college hockey, the men’s team is scheduled to open their season at UConn this Saturday and Sunday with game times still to be announced, moved back from the original scheduled series which was to be Friday and Saturday. The women’s team who is 1-1 after a split last weekend at Holy Cross, is scheduled to be hosting UConn at the Alfond Arena Friday night and Saturday afternoon but there has been no decision made on that as of yet.
