The Crew ends Revolution playoff run

December 7, 2020

The Columbus Crew got a goal in the 59th minute on Sunday afternoon, to advance past the New England Revolution 1-0 in the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference Final game played at Mapfre Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.

New England, the #8 seed in the Eastern Conference, had advanced to the conference final by upsetting top seed Philadelphia and third seed Orlando City. The Revolution couldn’t find any of that same magic Sunday however, as midfielder Lucas Zelarayan crossed one to Jonathan Mensah eight yards from goal and Mensah then sent a one touch pass to Artur who shot one inside the right post for the game winner that sends Columbus to their first MLS Cup Final in five years. The Crew outshot the Revolution 16-10, and New England did have a couple chances from Gustavo Bou and Matt Polster in stoppage time but couldn’t find the equalizer. The Revs end their season with a final record of 10-8-8.

Columbus (14-5-6) will meet the winner of the Western Conference Final between the Seattle Sounders and Minnesota United on Saturday at 8 p.m. for a chance to win their second ever MLS Cup Title.
