D.J. Mitchell scored 21 points on Sunday afternoon, leading the Hartford Hawks to a 65-50 win over the Maine Black Bears to complete a two game America East men’s basketball sweep at West Hartford, Connecticut.
A Stephane Ingo free throw for the first point of the game was the only lead for Maine (0-2, 0-2 America East), as Hartford got a layup from Austin Williams and then never trailed. The Hawks led by as many as 15 in the first half and by that margin at the halftime break. The Black Bears opened the second half on an 8-0 run to cut it to seven with six points from LeChaun DuHart and a dunk by Vilgot Larsson, but never got any closer. The hosts would eventually push the advantage to 19 and pull away for their fifth consecutive win (5-2, 2-0).
Larsson had 11 points and five rebounds in the loss for Maine. DuHart and Adefolalrin Adetogun both added nine points. The Black Bears shot just 37% from the floor and 56% from the foul line hitting only 13-23. Miroslav Stafl would add 17 points and eight rebounds for Hartford in the win. Maine plays a non-conference game at Boston College on Tuesday.
