The Dexter Tigers boys basketball team finished as the class C runner up last season. Due to the circumstances of Covid-19, the Tigers will not get to defend their title this season.
“Great disappointment in not being able to compete for a chance to play in the Cross Center.” Dexter coach Peter Murray said
There will be no Maine Principals’ Association this February. Each team has been reduced to a 12 game schedule. The Tigers start that schedule on Friday, January 15th at MCI.
“We are making the best of a bad situation and trying to stay positive and appreciative of all the good we have in our lives,”Murray said. I have told players to count every practice as a blessing and every game as a miracle. Basketball seem pretty insignificant when compared to people’s lives.”
Brett Kusnierz, Parker Ponte, Robbie Dorman, and Will Kusnierz all started and played significant minutes last season for the Northern Maine champions. Jacob Campbell, Avery Gagnon, Seth Robbins will be among the newcomers that will see playing time for the Tigers.
“We have four returning starters from a team that made it to the state final so experience will be a strength. We have several players from a successful JV team last year who are ready to step to the varsity this year, so they should provide depth,”Murray said. “We have great leadership from our senior class and an overall closeness with this year’s team. From a skill perspective we have a little bit of everything – shooting, rebounding, defense, etc. Put it all together and we should be pretty good again this year.”
Eastern Maine Sports Media will have live coverage of the Tigers games on January 19th against PCHS, February 10th at PCHS, and also February 15th at Foxcroft. Those games can be seen on Facebook and YouTube. Click here to see the full broadcast schedule.
