DEXTER- The Dexter Lady Tigers put up 28 points in the first quarter and never looked back in a 74-42 win over MCI in a girls basketball season opener on Friday night at Ed Guiski Gymnasium.
Peyton Grant scored 16 of her game high 34 points in the first eight minutes to set the tone for the Tigers. Dexter held a 53-22 halftime advantage as Grant (23) and Jozlynn Paige (16) combined for 39 points in the first half.
Grant scored 11 points as Dexter outscored the Huskies 19-10 in the third quarter. MCI outscored the Tigers 10-2 in the final quarter.
Grant also tallied six assists, four steals, and three rebounds to go along with her huge point total. Grant was named Our FAMBily restaurant player of the game. Paige added 20 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Cheyenne Beem filled up the stat sheet with five points, seven rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Beem was named Jersey Sub unsung hero of the game. Elizabeth Kinney recorded nine points, four assists, three rebounds, and three steals. Callie Gudroe and Lily Brown scored four and two points respectively.
Dexter had 19 assists and shot 11-15 from the free throw line. Dexter (1-0) will host PCHS on Tuesday. The game can be seen at Eastern Maine Sports Media starting at 5:45 PM.
Natalie Sites led the Huskies (0-1) with 15 points and nine rebounds. Danielle Dow added 11 points and two assists. Hannah Robinson had four points and eight rebounds. Trinity Leavitt and Ella Bernier also had four points each. Ruby Kitchen and Skyla Dean put in two points each.
