Egor Sharangovich scored on a breakaway with 1.7 seconds left in overtime Saturday afternoon, leading the New Jersey Devils to a 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
New Jersey (1-0-1) took the lead when Miles Wood scored a first period goal at 16:15. Boston responded shorthanded when Brad Marchand dropped a pass from the left faceoff circle to Patrice Bergeron in the high slot, and the captain wristed home the equalizer at 17:16 of the second. The teams remained scorless through the third period and most of the overtime, and after a good Boston chance on one end Sharangovich took a feed after a good hustle play by Kyle Palmieri and beat Bruins goalie Jaroslav Halak to end it.
Halak made 29 saves in his first game of the season in the loss, as Boston drops to 1-0-1 after picking up a shootout win in the season opener with New Jersey Thursday night. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 27 of 28 shots in the win for the Devils. The Bruins are at the New York Islanders Monday at 5 p.m.
