Blanca Millan led four players in double figures on Sunday afternoon, as the Maine Black Bears finished off a weekend sweep of the Binghamton Bearcats 70-53 in America East women’s basketball action at the Events Center in Vestal, NY. Maine has now won seven games in a row.
Binghamton (4-10, 4-8 America East) took an early 8-6 lead 3:17 in, before Maine closed on a 14-2 run to take a 20-10 advantage after one and a lead it never relinquished. The Black Bears would open it up to 15 early in the second quarter, but the Bearcats rallied to within 31-29 but it would be the guests still leading at the half by five with the help of 13 points by Millan. Maine would push the lead back to 11 several times in the third, and Binghamton never got closer than seven as the Black Bears went up as many as 20 late in the game and improve to 12-1 overall and 9-1 in AE on the season.
Millan added six rebounds on a tough 4-16 shooting day in the win, hitting 8-8 from the foul line. Dor Saar had 13 points, while both Anne Simon and Maeve Carroll had 12 points. Carroll added eight rebounds. Fanny Wadling had a season high eight points to go along with seven rebounds. Binghamton in the loss got 18 points and five rebounds from Birna Benonysdottir. Maine is scheduled to return home to host UMBC next Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Memorial Gym in Orono.
