Sean Kuraly scored a game winning goal late in the first period, and captain Patrice Bergeron added a pair of goals on Thursday night as the Boston Bruins swept the two game mini series over the Pittsburgh Penguins with a 4-1 win at TD Garden in Boston.
The teams swapped a pair of goals in the first 15 or so minutes. Chris Wagner scored for Boston at 6:10 of the opening period, before Cody Ceci answered at 15:03 to tie it for Pittsburgh. It was only the second first period goal the Bruins have allowed this season. Kuraly got the eventual game winner at 18:53. Bergeron scored his first to give the hosts some breathing room 3-1 at 8:13 of the second, before tallying a powerplay marker at 1:40 of the third. Boston now improves to 5-1-1 on the season, and wins four straight at the Garden to begin their home schedule.
Jaroslav Halak stopped 16 shots for the win in the Boston net. Anders Bjork, Charlie Coyle, Brad Marchand, Matt Grzeclyk, and Charlie McAvoy all added an assist a piece. Tristan Jarry also stopped 16 in the loss for Pittsburgh, who falls to 4-3-1. The Pens went 0-9 on the powerplay in the back to back losses in Boston. The Bruins now head back on the road to face the Washington Capitals in a two game mini series on Saturday and Monday.
