Kobe Gilbert earns sixth athlete of the week honor

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. If you want to sponsor the female or male athlete of the week email Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. Use that same email to send your nominations in during the week. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 327 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had six Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominationn. Kobe Gilbert from PCHS averaged 32.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, five assists, and five steals in three games. Gilbert edged out Simon Allen from Central, Allen scored 42 points and set a school record with 10 three pointers in a win over Bangor Christian. Gilbert joins Kolleen Bouchard (19) (Houlton), Leine McKechnie (13) (PVHS), Lexi Ireland (9) (PVHS), Taylor Schildroth (9) (George Stevens), Bryce Gilbert (9) (PCHS), Justin Thompson (9) (Schenck),Peyton Grant (8) (Dexter), Gage Feeney (7) (Washington Academy), Karli Theberge-(7) (Hermon), and Parise Rossignol (6) (Van Buren) as student/athletes that have earned at least six athlete of the week honors.

Male athlete of the week January 24th-January 30th

  • Kobe Gilbert- PCHS- basketball – had 33 points and 12 rebounds in 69-39 win over Greenville. Recorded 29 points (22 in second half), nine rebounds, six steals, and three assists in 48-44 win over Penquis. Recorded 36 points, 14 rebounds, eight assists, and four steals in 88-74 loss to Schenck.



Runner up

  • Simon Allen- Central- basketball- had 42 points, including a school record 10 three pointers in 77-53 win over Bangor Christian. Had 15 points and three 3 pointers in 49-39 win over Greenville. Allen is shooting 50% from three range this season.

Other nominations

  • Colby Smith – Brewer- basketball- recorded 20 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 75-41 win over Foxcroft.
  • Bryce Seeley- PVHS- basketball- came off the bench to score 20 points in 59-43 win over Lee Academy.
  • Will Kusnierz- Dexter – basketball- scored 26 points in 64-23 win over Penquis.
  • Tyrone Davis- Schenck- basketball- scored 33 points in 88-74 win over PCHS.
