Maine women’s hockey rolls over Merrimack

The Maine Black Bears scored four second period goals on Sunday afternoon, finishing off a weekend sweep of the Merrimack College Warriors 6-1 in women’s Hockey East play at Lawler Arena in North Andover, Massachusetts.

Celine Tedenby opened the scoring for Maine (7-7-0, 7-7-0 Hockey East) with a goal at 4:58 of the first period. Merrimack (1-15-0, 1-15-0) answered that when Courtney Maud made it 1-1 at 7:23. The Black Bears took the lead for good on a Ali Beltz marker at 19:33. The guests used the huge second period to pull away on goals by Elise Morphy at 1:12, Ida Kuoppala at 6:30, Kuoppala again at 7:30, and Rachel Enzler at 18:53. Morphy and Kuoppalas second goal were both on the powerplay.

Loryn Porter made 23 saves in net in the Maine win. Kuoppala had the two goals and also two assists, and Morphy and Enzler both had a goal and two helpers. Tedenby and Beltz each had a goal and one assist. Emma Gorski played the first 27:27 in net in the loss for the Warriors making 16 saves, while Aries Mustoe made 13 stops in the final 32:23.
