Howlers get by PCHS for girls basketball win

GUILFORD- The Penobscot Valley High School (PVHS) Howlers held PCHS without a field goal in the second quarter, and held on for a 41-31 win over the Pirates on Wednesday afternoon.

The Howlers jumped out to a 13-8 lead after the first quarter as Emily St. Cyr (5) and Kaya Loring combined for nine points. PVHS picked up the defensive pressure in the second quarter, limiting the Pirates to three free throws as the Howlers held a 23-11 halftime advantage.

Elizabeth Kendall put in two early second half baskets including a three pointer and Abbey Ricker added a hoop as the Pirates raced out to seven straight points to cut the deficit to 23-18. Kaya Loring and Emilee Ireland responded with baskets to expand the lead to 27-18. PVHS held a 33-23 entering the final eight minutes.

Holly Loring and Ireland scored four points each in the fourth quarter as the Howlers held on for the double digit win.

Ireland led the Howlers (4-4) with 12 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Holly Loring and Kaya Loring finished with 10 points each. Holly Loring also had four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. St. Cyr added seven points, while Becca Carson put in two points. Ireland was named Our FAMBily Restaurant Player of the Game. Holly Loring was named Jersey Sub Unsung Hero of the Game.

Kendall led the Pirates (4-5) with 11 points and four rebounds. Meagan Lemieux had seven points and four rebounds. Brylee Ricker and Abbey Ricker had six and five points respectively. Sydney Hutchins chipped in with two points.
