DJ Bussey had 21 points leading six players in double figures Sunday afternoon, giving the Husson Eagles men’s basketball team a weekend sweep with a 111-92 victory over Northern Vermont-Lyndon at Newman Gym in Bangor.
A much tighter first half than Saturday’s game when Husson jumped out to a 21 point halftime lead. UNV-Lyndon (1-3) was in front a couple of times in the first 20 minutes. The hosts led 37-34, before finishing on a 16-7 spurt to take a 12 point lead at the break. The Hornets would never get the deficit within 10 in the second half, as the advantage grew to as much as 30 for the now 4-0 Eagles.
Also in double figures for Husson was Scott Lewis and Justin Thompson both off the bench with 17 points and 15 points respectively. They both also had a double double with Lewis grabbing 10 rebounds and Thompson 12. Freshman Issac Varney also had his best game so far with 13 points and five rebounds. Also chipping in was Brett Cunningham and Jeremy Moronta with 10 points a piece. Bussey is now 23 points away from 1,000 in his career. Peyton Olsen had 21 points, and both Tyrese Harris and Mondwell Burkle added 17 a piece for Northern Vermont-Lyndon. The Eagles are scheduled to host Thomas College for a single game next Saturday at 2 p.m.
