The Husson basketball teams both took on Thomas College on Saturday afternoon. The women made the trip to Waterville to try to sweep the weekend series, while the men would host in Bangor to try to improve to 5-0.

At Larry Mahaney Gymnasium in Waterville, the Husson women’s team had a big second quarter and would pull away from Thomas for a 62-32 win.

A much different first quarter than Fridays meeting when the Eagles took a 15 point lead. Thomas was able to slow down the visitors for that opening 10 minutes for an 8-4 lead after one. Trinity Montigny hit a three-pointer with 4:47 left in the first half for a Husson lead and they never trailed after that, using a 16-2 run for a 32-19 halftime advantage. Their biggest lead was 32 late in the game, as they move their record to 3-0. Montigny had 13 points to lead the way, while Bailey Donovan added 12 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks. Sydney Allen came off the bench and contributed 10 points and three steals. Alydia Brilliant had 15 points and six rebounds in the loss for Thomas College (0-2).

At Newman Gymnasium in Bangor, DJ Bussey became the 51st men’s player at Husson to score 1,000 points as he had 24 points to lead the Eagles over Thomas 99-60.

Husson (5-0) never trailed scoring the first seven points of the contest, holding a 45-28 halftime lead. The Eagles scored 19 of the first 30 points of the second half pushing out to a 64-39 lead 7:30 in, and eventually would lead by 40 late to cruise to the win. Justin Thompson had a double double in the win with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. Cam Wood also added 10 points and seven rebounds. Bussey hit 8-17 from the floor and 6-10 from the three-point arc. Demetris Webster led Thomas College (0-1) with 17 points.

Both teams are back in action again next Saturday against UMaine-Farmington, with the women at home and the men on the road against the Beavers at 1 p.m.
