Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. If you want to sponsor the female or male athlete of the week email Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. Use that same email to send your nominations in during the week. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 329 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had 10 Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominationn. Malachi Cummings averaged 32.7 points for the second week in a row to earn his second consecutive athlete of the week honor. Cummings also averaged 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and five assists, and four steals in three games for Presque Isle this past week. Cummings edged out Kobe Gilbert (PCHS) for the second straight week..
Male athlete of the week February 22nd-February 27th
- Malachi Cummings- Presque Isle- basketball- Had 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal in a 73-66 win over Southern Aroostook. Recorded 46 points, five rebounds, five assists, and five steals in a 80-74 loss to Houlton. Had 29 points, eight rebounds, three assists in a 72-67 OT loss to Central Aroostook
Runner up
- Kobe Gilbert- PCHS- basketball- had 32 points (including 1000 career point) and 16 rebounds in 52-48 loss to Central. Had 22 points, 25 rebounds, eight assists, and five steals in 79-33 win over Greenville.
