The Boston Bruins lost a 1-0 third period lead on Tuesday night, and eventually fell 2-1 in a shootout to the New York Islanders at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY.
David Pastrnak staked Boston (13-6-4) to that 1-0 advantage with a powerplay goal, his 11th of the season, at the 19:32 mark of the first period. The lead stood until Brock Nelson tied it for New York with a powerplay marker at 16:32 of the second. The teams played through a scoreless third period and overtime, but not without any chances. The Bruins and Islanders both had 2 on 1 breakouts in the extra session but couldn’t convert, and shortly after the Boston 2 on 1 Brad Marchand hit one off the post that stayed out. Pastrnak had the shootout goal for the visitors, while Jordan Eberle and Anthony Beauvillier had the Islander tallies to give them the extra point in the standings. The Bruins are now 0-3-1 against New York this season.
Jaroslav Halak made 26 saves in the Boston net. Marchand and Matt Grzeclyk had the assists on the Pastrnak goal. Semyon Valarmov made 32 stops for New York in net, as the Islanders record goes to 16-6-4. Both teams had a lone powerplay goal on two opportunities. The Bruins will host the New York Rangers Thursday night.
