Davis leads Maine Field Hockey to first win

Hana Davis had a pair of goals, including the game winner in the third quarter Friday afternoon as the Maine Black Bears knocked off the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks 3-2 in the America East Field Hockey opener for both teams at Wicked Blue Field in Lowell, Massachusetts.

Jenna Berger put UMass-Lowell (2-2, 0-1 America East) on the board first with a goal at 1:49 of the first quarter. Davis scored her first of the day at 7:07 to even the score. Poppy Lambert had the lone tally of the second quarter with 1:13 left before halftime to make it 2-1 Black Bears. Davis scored the difference maker and game winner 5:49 into the second half to push the lead to 3-1. Clara Defourt had the other Riverhawks goal with 33 seconds left in the third quarter that would end the scoring on the day.

Maine had a 13-9 shot advantage in the game (8-4 shots on goal). Mia Borley made two saves to get the win in the net. Brittany Smith, Cassand Mascarenhas, and Tereza Holubcova each had an assist to pace the winners. Eleanore Boekhorst made five saves in goal in the loss for UMass-Lowell. The Black Bears (1-2, 1-0 AE) face the University of California Saturday afternoon in Lowell.
