Husson sweeps UMPI to start conference play

At O’Keefe Field in Bangor, the Husson Eagles began conference play Friday afternoon with a softball sweep over the University of Maine-Presque Isle by scores of 9-0 and 7-3.

In game one, the Eagles got three RBI from both Kenzie Dore and Kati Raymond to blank the Owls in a game shortened by the mercy rule in five innings. Dore, Raymond, Sydney Ames, and Kati Windsor all had two hits a piece. Jen Jones (5-0) was dominate in the circle to get the win allowing only one hit and one walk with six strikeouts in 5.0 innings.

In game two, Husson scored five first inning runs and cruised to the four run win to sweep the afternoon. Raymond had three more RBI, and Dore had three hits to pace the Eagles offense. Morgan Coleman also added two RBI. Sarah Duncklee and Jordan Hansen each had two hits and an RBI for UMPI. Ames (4-2) got the pitching win allowing three runs on eight hits in 7.0 innings. The Eagles are now 9-1, 2-0 in the NAC. The Owls are 1-5, 0-2. The teams meet again Saturday for a conference doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
