April 3, 2021

The Husson Eagles softball team swept a doubleheader for a second straight day over the University of Maine-Presque Isle on Saturday in Bangor, taking a four game sweep on the weekend to begin conference play.

In game one, a pitching duel had the game scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning. Kati Raymond hit an RBI single for a 1-0 Husson lead. UMPI responded when Sarah Dunklee scored on a wild pitch in the Owls last at bat in the top of the seventh. The Eagles would win the game 2-1 in the bottom half when Katie Windsor reached on a throwing error by the pitcher Brookelynn Garcia, allowing Madelyn Fowler to come across the plate with the run that decided things. Fowler had two hits to lead the offense, and Jen Jones (6-0) won in the circle allowing one run on one hit with three walks and nine strikeouts in 7.0 innings.

In game two, Husson pulled away with three runs in the fifth inning to complete the weekend sweep with a 6-1 win. Jill Bisson had two hits and four other Eagles had one RBI each, also taking advantage of six UMPI errors. Sydney Ames (5-1) allowed one run on four hits in 7.0 innings to pick up the pitching win. Husson is now 11-1, 4-0 in the North Atlantic Conference. UMPI drops to 1-7, 0-4. The Eagles will host Northern Vermont-Lyndon for a four game conference series beginning next Saturday afternoon.
