BANGOR- The Husson Eagles softball team stayed perfect in conference play on Saturday afternoon, taking a doubleheader sweep both in five innings by the mercy rule over Northern Vermont-Lyndon by 15-0 and 11-0 scores at O’Keefe Field at Husson University.
In game one, Sydney Ames and Jill Bisson in the circle combined to hold the visiting Hornets to just one hit in rolling to the win. Kenzie Dore provided all the offense Husson needed with a two run homerun to centerfield in the bottom of the first inning. Dore had three hits and five RBI, and Ames also had three hits as part of a 10 hit attack from the Eagles. NVU-Lyndon committed eight errors in the opening game loss. Ames (6-1) got the pitching win going the first 3.0 innings, as Bisson went the other 2.0 as the pair combined for five strikeouts and three walks.
In game two, five more Lyndon errors allowed the hosts to score all 11 runs in the game in the bottom of the first inning. Katie Raymond had two RBI on a two run single to lead the way. Bisson (1-0) would win in the circle to complete the afternoon sweep allowing no runs on three hits with no walks and three strikeouts in the 5.0 innings.
Husson improves to 13-1 overall and 6-0 in North Atlantic Conference play. NVU-Lyndon is 2-6, 2-2. The teams are scheduled for another doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
