The University of Maine softball team took a series win over Hartford on Sunday, taking the rubber game of a three game set with a 3-1 victory at Kessock Field in Orono.
In a scoreless game into the bottom of the fourth inning, Maine picked up two runs after the first two batters were retired. Kelby Drews hit her fourth homerun of the season to straight away centerfield to make it 1-0, and then after a walk to Jasmine Gray, Keely Clark would provide the game winning hit with an RBI double to left center. Kya Enos finished the scoring for the Black Bears on the day with an RBI triple in the fifth. Hartford (3-5, 1-5 in America East) picked up their only run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning. Seven of the nine batters for Maine had one hit each. Kyleigh O’Donnell (6-2) picked up her second win of the weekend in the circle allowing just one run on three hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in another complete 7.0 inning outing. The Black Bears improve to 6-12, 4-2 in conference play.
Next up for Maine is a non-conference doubleheader at the University of Massachusetts beginning at 12 p.m. on Tuesday.
