The Boston Bruins got shootout goals from Charlie Coyle and Jake Debrusk on Tuesday night, picking up the extra point in a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres at TD Garden in Boston.
The game was the debut of new Bruins players defenseman Mike Reilly, and former Sabre players in forwards Taylor Hall and Curtis Lazar. Colin Miller opened the scoring, tallying his fourth goal of the season on a long shot from the point 1:52 into the first period to make it 1-0 Buffalo. David Krejci tied it at 13:20 for Boston, on assists from Jeremy Lauzon and Craig Smith. Smith gave the Bruins the lead in the second period, finding a loose puck and firing it in from the right faceoff circle unassisted at 5:29. The visitors would force overtime when Rasmus Dahlin scored at 11:53 of the third period. Both teams had some excellent opportunities in the 3 on 3 overtime period, but couldn’t finish. Coyle and Debusk gave the hosts the win with the shootout goals, and Boston goalie Jeremy Swayman stopped both Victor Olofsson and Tage Thompson.
Swayman made 21 saves, improving his NHL record to 3-1-0 so far. Smith led Boston with two points with a goal and an assist. Linus Ullmark left the game in the first period with an undisclosed injury for Buffalo in the loss, after stopping all three shots that he faced. Dustin Tokarski would stop 29 of 31 shots in the absence of Ullmark. The Sabres are now 10-25-7 on the season. The Bruins, who end a two game losing streak, are now 22-12-6 and will host the New York Islanders in back to back games at TD Garden on Thursday and Friday night.
